Zach Kaplan

Zach had an interesting presentation concerning the history, more or less, of folk history.  He said he was "just a fan, not a fold music historian."  With a little help from our own musical judge, he presented quite a bit of folk music history to us, ranging from The Weavers (including Pete Seeger) from the 40's to when Bob Dylan "went electric" in the 60's.
By the way, did you know that the "folk" category was created in The Emmy Awards when The Kingston Trio won for Tom Dooley??  So Zach tells us.

Tom Ellers

CSU coach spoke with us about CSU athletics, and about CSU's philosophy of "winning games by not losing".

GUESTS

Q: Why were men given larger brains than dogs?
A: So they won't hump women's legs at cocktail parties.

Light takes six hours to travel from Pluto to Earth.

TCarnegie Mellon University offers bag piping as a major.

The term "surfing the Internet" was created in 1992 by author Jean Armour Polly. She came up with the term because her mouse pad had a picture of a surfer on it.

 Sertoma Board Meeting on March 20th ~ 5:30 P.M.

(In March the meeting will be at ReMax across from Sam's)

I know a lot of you are wondering about Woody . . . Well, here's the story:
Woody had a major case of the 3-day flu that took a turn for the worse and affected his immune system. He was admitted to the hospital on Feb. 4 and spent two weeks there; 4 days were in ICU.  He was discharged Feb 18. He says the doctors aren't sure why he was so affected by the flu, but tests are being run.
He's recovering at home now and is just now able to walk with a cane. He still feels quite weak, and has poor stamina and balance problems, but is improving with physical therapy each day.  He promises to join us for lunch again as soon as he is able.
He says no help is needed since he has children here who are taking care of things..... but he does enjoy the e-mails he has been receiving from various Sertomans,
so drop him a line: everettwood@comcast.net

Brad Burns bragged on his wife Polly, "who keeps plugging away!"

Ed Caffrey (who made a short story long) had a check for his 78th birthday.  He's says "it's great to be 78", and feels he needs "a little more respect"

Velma Cassell

I'm sorry to have to tell you that Gary Cassell's mom passed away on Monday this week.  As Gary said, "she was 93 and loved the Lord, so we know she is now in the right place."
The funeral will be held at Ahlberg funeral home in Longmont.   That's between 3rd and 4th, 1 block west of Main.  I'm sure Gary would be honored to have us there.

Somebody figured out that Shawn Dunnigan (see "SOW", above) is up to $150 in fines for not showing up to present the next SOW.  (We've all been there Shawn ~ Come Back!)

Our stand-in president for a day, Gary Ross read us a "thank you" note from Eric at Integrity Center.  The Board voted to donate $1,000 to them.

In a midweek brag, Brad Burns told us of his remarkable skills in golf.  Seems he had
"3 pars on the front side at Highland Meadows."  Burns was quoted as saying "it's a tough first hole to shoot par on".  (Didja' use a shotgun, Brad??)

"Nipples"

One of our own at lunch last week.  He said he was "thinking of nipples".  I'm not sure exactly what that means, but it looks painful.

Another new member, Tom Bryan, was the lucky recipient of a "coaches shirt" from Tom Ellers this week.  After Eller's presentation, a capsule was drawn, and Tom Bryan was the lucky winner.

Are you confused about which is the best value from satellite/cable companies?  Well, there is a website that will compare 3 in our area,
side-by-side!

St. Pat's Party at John McLean's 4248 Eagle Lake South   Sat.  March 17th  6:00Pm. Live Irish Music, Singing, Story Telling, Jokes.  Bring an appetizer, booze, or just yourself.  Friends invited.

Reuel Rolston

Here we have visual proof of new member Reuel Rolston delivering $25 with his application.  Seems that, somehow, no one is managing to keep track of who paid what, when.
Reuel is a former member (for about 6 months) from some time back.  He left the club after landing a job w/Kodak.  He has recently retired, and is back in Fort Collins, and, pending Board approval, will soon become our newest member.
Reuel has two kids, a daughter, Jane, living in Denver with 2 kids, and a son, Randall, in the Springs, also with two kids.  When you see him, tell him "welcome back!"

Dog Pack Attacks Gator In Florida

At times nature can be cruel, but there is also a raw beauty, and even a certain justice manifested within that cruelty.

The alligator, one of the oldest and ultimate predators, normally considered the "apex predator", can still fall victim to implemented 'team work' strategy, made possible due to the tight knit social structure and "survival of the pack mentality" bred into the canines.

See the remarkable photograph below
courtesy of Nature Magazine. Note that the Alpha dog has a muzzle hold on the gator preventing it from breathing, while another dog has a hold on the tail to keep it from thrashing. The third dog attacks the soft underbelly of the gator.

Not for the squeamish!

News Flash:  New Apple Computer Triumph

Apple Computer reported  today that it has developed computer chips that can store and play music  inside women's breasts. This is considered to be a major break- through  because women are always complaining about men staring at their breasts and not listening to them.

CREATION
A man said to his wife one day, "I don't know how you can be so stupid
and so beautiful all at the same time.
"The wife responded, "Allow me to explain.
God made me beautiful so you would be attracted to me; God made me
stupid so I would be attracted to you!

George Carlin's New Rules for 2007
"Competitive eating isn't a sport. It's one of the seven deadly sins. ESPN  recently televised the U.S. Open of Competitive Eating, because watching those athletes at the poker table was just too damned exciting. What's next, competitive farting? Oh wait. They're already doing that. It's
called "The Howard Stern Show."
