"Peace"

Winning
Sculpture
"Peace"

WINNER AWARDED
Art for the Mountain Community has chosen a permanent sculpture, “Peace”, to be placed at the new Mt. Evans Hospice and Home Health Care building on Bergen Peak Drive, in Evergreen.
Chosen from 78 submissions, the piece by  Lorri Acott-Fowler is a fourteen foot bronze figure, reaching up to the sky and releasing multi-colored origami folded cranes. In Japan, these cranes are symbols of peace and hope. Lorri believes the figure represents the place and people of Mt Evans Hospice and Health Care. The cranes represent the hope and peace that this organization and the people involved with it bring to our community.
The
Announcement of Final Award was March 15, 2008.

Greg

Greg Roeder has been accepted for membership to Sertoma!  He is a commercial realtor for Brinkman Partners in Fort Collins.
He is currently involved in driving into DU twice a week, working on his Masters.
Already, Greg has worked with our club, making spaghetti at our spaghetti contest recently, and has signed up to help at the Realities Poker Run on May 25th.  Seems like just the kind of guy we need!  Next time you see him, shake his hand and welcome him!

At our Spaghetti Bash a while back, the winners were:
#1 Chris and Mary MacDonald
#2  Ken and Kay Borrett
#3  Ron and Alli Bush

At out recent golf tournament on June 6th, the winning foursome was Jim Nutt, Brad Burns, Gary Ross, and Jim Manning.  Each of them won a $50 gift certificate for the Mariana Butte Pro Shop.  Way to keep it in the club guys!

Stoner shared a couple of near-death experiences with us he had recently:  In the first, he was on his way to work, stopped at a light at the intersection of 287 & The Bypass.  7:55 a.m.  Suddenly, BAM!  Rear-ended at 55mph by some kid reading a map.  Never saw Ed.  Ed said the kid's Honda Accord was totaled.  Ed had the larger vehicle, however, and was relatively unhurt.

His SECOND near-death experience involved standing in line for tickets for the "white stallion dancing guys".  He spotted a fellow Sertoman waiting in a long line (to get tickets for his granddaughter, as it turned out).  Ed kinda' sneaked up and tried to cut line, when this guy turns around and starts to swing on him!  Ed shouted out "It's me, WOODY, IT'S ME!!", which apparently saved him!
Woody rebutted "I haven't felt fire in the belly like that for a long time!"  :)

Dick Acott's wife, Constance, had a birthday a short while ago.

Gary Cassell bragged that "the greatest miracle since the virgin birth happened recently" . . . . He made a HOLE IN ONE on #6 hole!  Dave Blomberg brought up the rule, however, that, since he didn't finish the round, it didn't count!

Tim Miller had a brag for a few Sertomans who helped clean up Windsor just after the tornado . . . Don Shannon, Dave Blomberg, Ryan Kruse, Larry Scheinost, and Beaver, who "showed up to say "Hi".

Norm Rehme bragged that he has a new grandson!

Ronny Bush bragged that he had "one grandchild born every years for 10 years in a row".  Now, he's been "six years clean".

Norm bragged that his oldest son, Kyle, and his wife, both had their first child, Joanna Grey.

Carl Glaser had a brag for "Dick Zimmerman" and his "Foam on the Range" program at Pappy's.

Ron Young presented a check for $42 representing his daughter's birthday, had she been here today.  He also had good things to say for Crossroads Safehouse, and the difference they make in people's lives.

Bill Benton got the mike (and no respect whatsoever!) and told us that his book was recently published!  He then proceeded to be fined for telling us that "his wife had taken his money clip, etc., etc."

Bill also had a windbreaker presented to the club by Fort Collins Youth Baseball.  We donate $1,000 to them on a regular basis for scholarships, so Bill received this windbreaker donated to us.  Bill auctioned it off, and received $35 (from me!) for the Foundation.

Brad Burns had a brag for the Tuesday morning coffee at my shop in the mall (Colorado Coffee Exchange).  We have a pretty consistent turnout of around 15 guys or so every week.  All ya' have to do is get there around 7:30!

Dani and dad, Bob

I know when you see this picture of Dani Korkegi and her dad, Bob, you'll recognize him as a long-time recurring guest of Tim's.  Seems like Timmy's been bringing him to lunch on a regular basis for YEARS.

I'm sorry to have to tell you, however, that we won't be seeing him anymore.  Bob recently passed away, peacefully, in his sleep.
Dani says her father "truly enjoyed those Friday lunches when he was here, and the occasional, and very spontaneous, volunteer efforts into which he was "roped"!  She would like to express her thanks to those Sertomans who were so supportive of her during the 3-month span after her father's stroke.

She says "his pain is over and my family's is just beginning.  But I will forever remain proud and in admiration of him, and feel that I was the luckiest daughter on earth.  He was my hero, my mentor, my guide, my advisor, and my best friend.

And, for all those things, I remain eternally grateful."

Anyone who knew Bob will miss him.

Tom Pixley

Even in death, John McLean is doing good.  Last year, John arranged for Tom Pixley to speak with us about the Colorado Mission of Mercy.
COMOM is a large-scale portable dental clinic that travels to different regions of Colorado annually, providing dentistry at no charge to those individuals without insurance or the means to afford dental care.  On July 17 - 20 we'll have the opportunity to volunteer our help (along with hundreds of others) to help make this happen at The Ranch!
