HISTORY

Originally (in the 30's) very famous. Since then, has died out and been revived by the Japanese in 1972. The island of Sulawesi (as the coffee is sometimes called) lies in the Indonesian archipelago. The natives of Sulawesi had never even seen a shovel, so you can imagine their surprise when bulldozers were brought in to aid in cultivation! All worked out, however, and after 5 years the transformation was complete.

The Japanese formed a joint venture with the Indonesian firm P.T. Utesco, to become P. T. Toarco Jaya (Toraja Arabica Coffee; Jaya means "Glorious")

Even though the island's name was changed shortly after it won independence World War II, the island of Sulawesi, formerly Celebes, is again producing a world class coffee.
